Encounters
And I thought I was tired.
Until I encountered this poor-clothed woman in her age holding his boy walking barefoot under the sun, asking some errands so that she could feed her starving son.
I thought the world mocked me to the fullest.
Not until I encountered this disabled man asking for some pesos so he could quench his thirst.
I envied other girls for living galantly, but not until I encountered this homeless girl sleeping under the bridge.
I thought I lived miserably until I encountered a lolo selling candies, foods, snacks, and even cigarettes attached to his clothes and body.
I complained about how my parents raised and treated me, not until I encountered this young orphan girl carrying her baby sister, sitting on the sidewalk, asking for some help so she could ease their situation.
And lastly, I thought the world was drowned by its cruelty. Not until these people—the poor-clothed woman with her boy, a disabled man, a homeless girl, a lolo selling cigarettes and candies, and an orphan girl carrying her baby sister—smiled at me warmly.
